Stages of The Whidbey Way
Stage 1: Mukilteo – Langley
Distance 10.1 miles (73 miles to Anacortes)
Walk will be along mostly country roads with a mile or so through Whidbey Camano Conservation Trust Lands (Trust Lands).

Walk will be mostly on trails (including special permission across private property for pilgrims with credentials) and very quiet county roads.

Stage 3: Freeland – Lagoon Point
Distance 9.6 miles (52.8 miles to Anacortes)
Walk will be on Trust Land trails and country roads some of which have wide shoulders but speed limits of 50 miles per hour. You will be on rural roads that are walked by locals. Most, but not all, drivers are very courteous and give walkers a wide berth. This section may have 3 miles of state park lands and a beach walk at low tide. Presently easement issues are being explored.

Stage 4: Lagoon Point – Admiralty Cove/ Keystone
From the entrance to Lagoon Point at Westcliff Drive walk north on Smugglers Cove Road for 2.4 miles to Greenbank Farm (cross highway 525 and then walk 75 yards north to the bus stop) .Enter the gate and follow the trail to the shops below. From here follow the interactive map to Farmington Drive, continue a short distance to the T in road and go right on E. Nettle Rd and then right again on S. Harbor Estates Rd. Now go left on N. Bluff Road for approximately 4.5 miles. Turn Right onto Oakes Rd. and then left on Highland Trail. Stay right at the end of Highland trail and cross Hwy. 525 For 0.3 mile walk on the grass trail and asphalt shoulder of the Highway. Turn left at E Admiral Drive for 0.75 mile and go left on S. Byrd Drive and then take next on S. Halsey Drive to next left which is Perry Drive. Follow Perry Dr. its near end and take a right on Koenig Ln. for one block then left on W. Wanamaker Road. At the curve stay left on Keystone Ave. (Hwy 20) and follow to Driftwood Park Beach. Here you turn will walk the beach for a brief while and either continue along the beach or walk the hard path between the Hwy and the beach. Prior to reaching the Private Beach houses return to Hwy 20 for a brief walk to the Keystone Ferry terminal.

Stage 5 Admiralty Cove/Keystone - Coupeville
From the Keystone Ferry Terminal today's stage will take you through Fort Casey State Park and a Whidbey Camano Land Trust trail. Most of the walk will be along a country road taking you into the historic town of Coupeville. Coupeville is a lovely waterfront village with many shops and restaurants.

Stage 6 Coupeville – Oak Harbor
We will return to the west side of the island and walk one of the most beautiful sections of the Way through Ebey's Landing National Historic Preserves. Our route includes a long beach walk before heading back across the Island to Oak Harbor.

Stage 7 Oak Harbor – Deception Pass
Stage 8 Deception Pass – Anacortes
This stage begins on the south end of the Deception Pass bridge. Enoy a breath-taking stroll high above Deception Pass as you view ancient beaches and enchanting water vistas. Once across the bridge (with-in a tenth of a mile) you will take a left onto a marked trail to Bowman Bay. Arrive at Bowman Bay and visit the Maiden of Whidbey. Imagine the Salish Nation peoples who have been living in this area for thousands of years (original signers of the Point Elliot treaty) enjoying the same beauty that you are witnessing. Let's be grateful for their heritage and presence on this island now called Fidalgo. Next retrace your steps for 0.5 miles along Bowman Bay to the Bowman Bay Campground and wander through the campground and follow Bowman Bay Road to Rosario Road and go right about 100 yards into the Pass Lake Trail parking lot. Stay straight as you go uphill on the Pass Lake Trail. Follow the Pass Lake Loop trail to the right for 0.5 miles; then turn right onto the Tursi Trail for 1.3 miles . This puts you onto a dead ended street (Donnel Road) for about 0.4 miles. At the end of Donnel Road take a right, then take an immediate left onto Cambell Lake Road which immediately changes its name to Heart Lake Road. You should see the small (now closed) Lake Erie Grocery. Stay right of the Grocery and continue on Heart Lake Road for 0.06 miles; Here you pass between two giant Douglas fir trees forcing a slight narrowing to the road. 150 feet further along and to you left enter the Anacortes Community Forest Land (ACFL).
